"Class Timeline" for the Baroque
Class was quiet today so I am going to collect the HW. Look at Rubens, Velasquez, Hals, Van Dyck and Vermeer in the textbook, read what you can of each (I know it is a lot) and SUMMARIZE the most significant characteristics of their work in 2-3 sentences for each artist. So as an example, for Caravaggio (who we studied today) my sentence would be; "Caravaggio used models that he found in pubs and brothels and painted them in religious scenes using tenebrism, or dramatic light and dark passages that make it seem as if the figures are acting in the darkness and emitting their own sacred light. His work reinforces church traditions, however, his choice of models and his innovations in composition challenged conventions for the representation of the sacred."
